How Long Do Anti-Wrinkle
Injections Last?

Anti-wrinkle treatment results Auckland

This is one of the most common questions we hear — and the honest answer is: it depends. But we can give you a very good guide.

The typical timeframe

For most people, anti-wrinkle injections last between 3 and 4 months. After this point, muscle activity gradually returns as the body metabolises the product, and lines begin to reappear. Some people find their results last closer to 5–6 months. Others notice movement returning sooner, around 10–12 weeks.

What affects how long it lasts?

Metabolism

People with faster metabolisms tend to break down the product more quickly. Very active people — particularly those who exercise intensively — sometimes find their results don’t last quite as long.

Muscle mass and strength

Stronger, more active facial muscles require more product to relax fully and may reassert themselves sooner.

Dosage

Higher doses generally last longer. At oDocs Aesthetics, we tend to be conservative with first-time patients — we’d rather review at 2 weeks and add a little more than over-treat initially.

The product used

Relfydess® in particular is designed for extended duration — clinical data suggests it may last longer than conventional botulinum toxin products for some patients.

Treatment frequency over time

Many regular patients find that over time, as the muscles become conditioned to relaxing, they need slightly less product and treatments can be spaced further apart.

How often should you get treated?

For most people, 3–4 treatments per year is typical. But we don’t operate on a rigid schedule at oDocs Aesthetics — we encourage patients to come back when they feel they want to, not according to a fixed calendar. What we’d gently caution against is treating too frequently. Over-treating can occasionally lead to a feeling of heaviness or an unnatural appearance. Less is often more.

Is it safe to keep getting treatments long-term?

Yes — long-term use of botulinum toxin in aesthetic doses is considered safe based on the available evidence. Some long-term patients actually develop a degree of muscle atrophy over time — meaning the muscles responsible for wrinkles become slightly smaller with repeated relaxation. This is generally considered beneficial in an aesthetic context, as it can mean treatments become more effective and longer-lasting over time.
